About the Work
My work questions the process and nature of digital images inside existing communication networks. It is a reflection of a current “state of the world” in a conflicting state between the virtual and the real, and the effects of technological evolutions on human subjectivity, an also about the shock of disillusion in this troublesome encounter.
The pieces in the “Accumulations” are a series of conceptual photographs composed of millions of images found online through image search mechanisms that form an accumulation of the surface of the overall image. What is seen is merely a manifestation of randomly arranged electronic code, made to illude us into thinking of it is a visual image.
In the “Fragile Connections” series, I capture the interference, or ‘noise’ in the fractured digital image captured in webcam conversations as a means to reflect the fragile nature of long-distance relationships, a cliché of human relationships in contemporary times.
The “Synchroni-city” series, entirely executed in Asia, deals with the complex synchronicity of space and time in urban space, resulting in photo-montages of urban landscapes and the crowds that are characteristic of Asian cities.
“Automaton” deals with the issue of time in the still frame of the photographic image. Several views of the same scene are captured and then overlayed into a portrait of simultaneous time.

“Isabel Löfgren’s work is made of artistic connections in the fragile vertigo of her chosen medium. The telematic composition (of information technology) shows the compulsive side of image collectors. The montages, conceptually photographic, live through the digital spoils she researches very carefully. Celebrities, impostors, fashion, cinema and music icons, anonynous people, individualities of the media market or supporters of pop culture are cut and pasted, then decontextualized, sometimes subtracted or replaced in the artist’s careful eye…”
